About the Bonsai company

The Bonsai company was founded by Bo and Trish who are ardent plant lovers, admirers of Asian style and fearless world travelers. In our travels we discovered the beauty of Bonsai’s and it has become our desire to share this love with others and to beautify the environment around us with these fun, aesthetically pleasing trees. 

The art of Bonsai originated in China as “penjing,” the art of miniature trees and landscapes in containers, and was introduced to Japan around the 7th to 12th centuries via Buddhist monks and travelers. In Japan, this practice evolved under Zen Buddhist principles, becoming the more minimalist art form of “bonsai” (tree in a shallow pot). While China focused on creating entire miniature landscapes, Japan developed individual miniature trees, refining techniques and aesthetics to become the well-known art form it is today.

Many of our trees are imported directly from growers in Asia, Indonesia, Japan, China, and all corners of the world. Some of our trees are started here locally and are local varieties found in your own backyard. All our trees are grown with care, tended daily and loved. Over time Bonsai’s continue to mature into amazing miniature trees as they age. They provide wonderfully aesthetic style and will provide years and years of beauty and enjoyment. All they require are sun, water, attention, patience, and some love.
